If you are comparing CMA course fees in Dubai, you have probably noticed that prices vary widely and rarely include everything. That is because the total cost of becoming a US Certified Management Accountant has two separate parts: the official fees you pay to the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), and the training fee you pay to whichever institute helps you prepare. This guide explains both, so you can compare CMA courses in the UAE on a like-for-like basis.
Part 1: The Official IMA Fees
The CMA credential is awarded by IMA, not by any training centre. Whichever course you choose, you pay IMA directly for membership, the CMA entrance fee and each exam part. According to IMA's published fee schedule (as of October 2026), the fees are:
- IMA membership: US$295 for professional members; US$49 for student members; US$160 for academic members. Membership must be kept active.
- CMA entrance fee: US$300 for professionals, or US$225 for students and academics. It is non-refundable and paid before you sit the exams.
- Exam fee: US$545 per part for professionals, or US$407 per part for students and academics. There are two parts, and each attempt, including a retake, is charged.
What the Official Fees Add Up To
For a professional sitting each part once, the IMA fees add up to US$1,685: US$295 membership, US$300 entrance and 2 x US$545 exam fees. For an eligible student the same calculation comes to US$1,088. These figures do not include training, study materials, or any retakes, and IMA can change its fees, so always check the current schedule on the IMA website before you budget.
Timing matters too. According to the CMA Handbook, candidates must complete the CMA programme within three years of entering it. If both parts are not passed in that time, any passed part expires and the entrance fee has to be paid again. A realistic study plan is the cheapest way to avoid paying twice.
Part 2: CMA Training Fees in Dubai
Training is optional in the sense that IMA does not require you to attend a course. In practice, most working professionals choose a structured programme because the two exam parts cover a wide syllabus: Part 1 is Financial Planning, Performance, and Analytics, and Part 2 is Strategic Financial Management.
Training fees in Dubai vary by provider, format, hours and what is bundled. When you compare quotes, look past the headline price and ask what is actually included.
- Coverage: Does the fee cover both Part 1 and Part 2, or is each part charged separately?
- Study materials: Are textbooks, question banks and mock exams included, or extra?
- Teaching hours and format: How many live hours are there, and are classes in person, online, or both?
- Exam format readiness: Does the course prepare you for the case-based questions now used in the exam?
- Support: Is there help with IMA registration and exam scheduling, and what happens if you need extra revision before a retake?
The 2026 Exam Format Change and Why It Affects Your Choice
From the September/October 2026 testing window, IMA replaced the essay section of the English CMA exam with case-based questions (CBQs). Each part now has 100 multiple-choice questions in three hours, followed by two case-based question sets in one hour. You must score at least 50% on the multiple-choice section to unlock the CBQ section.
This is worth checking with any provider. A cheaper course that still trains you for essays is poor value in 2026. Ask how the course practises case-based questions, which include drag-and-drop, fill-in-the-blank, select-from-a-list and calculation items.
CMA exams are held in three testing windows each year: January/February, May/June and September/October. Planning your study around a specific window helps you control both cost and time.
Eligibility: Check Before You Pay
Before investing in fees, make sure the CMA fits your profile. To earn the credential, IMA requires active IMA membership, passing both exam parts, a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or a related professional certification, two continuous years of professional experience in management accounting or financial management, and agreement to IMA's Statement of Ethical Professional Practice. The CMA Handbook explains the education and experience rules in detail.

Costs Many CMA Candidates Forget
The headline numbers are only part of the picture. When you build your CMA budget, include these less obvious items so there are no surprises later.
- Retakes: Each exam attempt is charged at the full exam fee. Budgeting for one possible retake gives you a safety margin.
- Membership renewal: IMA membership must stay active while you are a candidate, so a longer study plan can mean paying membership more than once.
- Expired parts: If you do not pass both parts within three years of entering the programme, passed parts expire and the entrance fee must be paid again.
- After you qualify: According to the CMA Handbook, certified CMAs pay an annual fee covering IMA membership and the CMA maintenance fee.
- Exam refunds: The handbook states the exam fee is refundable within 30 days of purchase only if no Prometric appointment has been set, and a processing fee is deducted.
A Simple Way to Budget Your CMA
Start with IMA's current fee schedule and decide whether the professional or student rate applies to you. Add the training fee from the institute you choose, plus any materials that are not included. Then add a contingency for one retake and one extra year of membership. Finally, pick a target testing window for each part and work backwards to set a weekly study plan. Planning the timeline is just as important as planning the money, because passing on the first attempt is the biggest saving of all.
If your employer supports professional development, ask whether they can sponsor part of the cost. Many candidates find it easier to agree a plan with their manager when they can show a clear breakdown of IMA fees, training fees and timing.
